Centrally located at Parliament Square overlooking Hobart’s historic waterfront, The Tasman marks the debut of The Luxury Collection® by Marriott International in Australia. The property was brought to life as an elegant heritage reconstruction of former state government offices, bringing together three eras of design: Georgian, Art Deco, and Contemporary. The Tasman offers 152 guest rooms and suites carefully conceived to showcase the captivating architectural narrative of the site and ensures no two stays are the same.
We sat down with The Tasman’s Chief Concierge James Nobleza - Tasmania’s only certified Clef d’Ors Concierge - to discover the wonders of Tasmanian culture and the the property’s unique blend of design influences.
The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel
Hobart is a destination whose landscape is as dramatic as its history, where the food and cool climate wines are reason enough to visit. Hobart and Southern Tasmania are the perfect places to exhale and enjoy what makes you happy.
I am very proud of the three distinct design elements of the Tasman. Georgian architecture to Art Deco period styling, to contemporary fixtures. Mostly, I am in love with our ode to Tasmanian craftsmen and artisans, from my Tasmanian Blackwood Concierge desk to the Rueben Oats artwork displayed in our Pavilion corridors. For first time visitors, it may be their first immersion into Tasmanian art, crafts and products..
One of my favourite collaborations is our partnership with Lark Distillery. Lark Distillery has created The Docks Lark Single Malt Whisky exclusively for the Tasman hotel. This whisky was matured in ex-port casks, then finished in Muscat, offering a lightly complex, warm and beautiful dram on the palate
The definition of luxury has changed over the years and guest standards and expectations have charged also. Now more than ever, luxury is found in the finer details. It’s the locally sourced bath and soap products, it’s the magnificence of the Frette linen on our king sized beds. Our mini bar is familiar but different, with much of our products being distinct and unique to Tasmania.
Standing 1871m above Hobart is kunanyi / Mount Wellington. On a clear day, one must visit the summit to enjoy unparalleled views of Hobart and beyond. It truly is spectacular!
Chef Massimo Mele and his team at Peppina have created a restaurant that fits seamlessly into the Hobart dining scene. Our larger than life Sommelier Michael Fisher will take you on a journey through some of the wonderful local wines that make Tasmania special, informative and entertaining.
Most Luxury Collection hotels around the world have Frette linen as a standard element. For our loyal guests they can expect the same sublime quality and superior sleep each and every time.
Located adjacent to the hotel lobby is our Deco Lounge. I really enjoy sitting in an armchair by the fireplace and sipping on a well-made Latte.
It’s hard to narrow the list down but I do love taking a leisurely stroll along the Hobart Rivulet from the Hobart City Center towards South Hobart and the Cascade Brewery. I suggest having brunch at the local favourite, Ginger Brown Café.
The Tasman is fortunate to have two luxury Audis in its fleet. One of the great joys of my role as the Chief Concierge is being able to drive our guests on a sightseeing day trip. I recently drove a wonderful couple to Bruny Island where they enjoyed the island’s amazing oysters, cheese and honey. Often hotels outsource these tours to an outside operator. We have the opportunity to curate an itinerary for our guests and personally drive them as well.
