The warm and inviting interiors exude a comfortable, simple sophistication using light oak finishes and airy fabrics that evoke the beach and are complemented by limestone floors from Indonesia and a clean, light color palette. Bathtubs are positioned in the main room, surrounded by the immaculate view, to create a spacious environment.

What are three fun facts about the property that many are surprised to learn?

The Sanya EDITION is the largest EDITION to date, with a gross area of 194,000 square metres. The site has over 330 metres, or 1,000 feet, of ocean and natural beach frontage on the South China Sea.

Inspired by the sea, The Sanya EDITION has a private ocean situated within the resort. The property offers a wide array of water activities with 10 million gallons of seawater pumped in from the South China Sea, recycling once every 32 hours. A unique ozone treatment and filtering system maintains water quality and prevents algae growth. The large salt water swimming area (over 4,000 square metres / 43,000 square feet) of the Private Ocean features iridescent glass mosaic tiles, lapping onto the crescent-shaped sandy Private Beach with seamless zero-edge entry into the sea.

Guests can choose to take an idyllic evening ride on a customised boat to the signature restaurant Xian Hai By The Sea, where guests dine on a series of illuminated floating platforms.

Walk us through your ideal stay at The Sanya EDITION.

The Sanya EDITION has proven itself as the ultimate holiday destination for both romantic getaways and family vacations alike.

The ideal stay at The Sanya EDITION starts as you enter our lobby, where you will be greeted with a striking view of the Private Ocean and a series of gracefully-framed teak pavilions. Stay at our loft suites on the northern side of the building, with warm and inviting interiors that exude comfortable and simple sophistication – it is perfectly designed for couples. The 63 square metre Ocean Front Room fitted with two large double beds and the 101 square metre Junior Family Suite features separate living and sleeping areas as well as a private balcony with lounge chairs. It’s the perfect suite for families.

Take a rest in the comfy room and have a pleasant dining experience at one of our five stellar restaurants, each with a unique concept designed to fit seamlessly into the resort’s charming setting. Couples may want to explore the only Indonesian restaurant in Sanya. What is your greatest indulgence at a hotel when you travel?

It’s super simple: reading with a cup of coffee on the balcony.

Can you share your go-to in-room dining order?

In my own resort, my favourite is the Hainan Chicken Rice. When I am traveling, I always go for something locally authentic.

What is the most unique experience you’ve put together for a guest?

There was a young guest who shared with me his dream to open a hotel when he grows up. He returned to Sanya shortly after and we had the privilege of hosting him so we decided to surprise him with a ‘GM for the Day’ experience where he shadowed me for The Daily EDITION meeting, walking through the resort, sending ‘ENCORE’ cards to the employees, and allowing him to ‘work’ with few departments such as Kid’s Playland in creating the perfect kid’s program and Pastry in making their own dessert.

At the end of the day, the young guest was presented with a certificate as GM for the Day, and personalized chocolate shaped as the hotel building with his name. It gave us an opportunity to create a memorable experience for our guest and also give him a taste of a hotelier’s life.

If you only had 24 hours in Sanya, where would you visit?

With the unique concept of displaying the best of dining and entertainment, services and amenities “all under one roof,” The Sanya EDITION is designed with a broad range of amenities and activities catered to multifaceted lifestyles, which would have filled up your whole day itinerary in Sanya.

From the outdoor movies and arcade games to the saltwater pool and rock-climbing wall, the resort is divided into different specialized zones including water, fun, sports, kids, adult, family, eating, nightlife, entertainment, sensory and relaxation. They are magical in their interaction while the total experience becomes more than the sum of the individual parts. This makes for an incredibly unique one-of-a-kind experience unlike anything else.

What do you believe is the greatest hidden gem in Sanya?

I enjoying going to HouHai. It is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. In my opinion, Haitang Bay is the hidden gem of Sanya, nestled in the south side. Haitang Bay has a half moon shaped beach and is unknown to visitors. The sand has a gradual incline which makes it the ideal location to learn how to surf in China. Other activities such as kayaking, snorkelling and exploring local restaurants provide guests an opportunity to understand the beach culture of Hainan.

In your opinion, what is the best time of year to visit Sanya? Why?

In ancient times, Sanya was known as “the end of the sky and ocean,” and today it remains legendary for its lush landscapes, crystalline beaches and, most importantly, year-round tropical climate, which allows us to welcome guests with pleasant weather all year.

Why do you travel?

I travel to explore, be inspired and “reboot.” I find it fascinating to immerse myself in a completely different environment and culture. I enjoy learning and unlearning from these new environments; it’s almost like a mind and soul “reboot” which is inspiring. Of course, I often travel with family to reconnect and spend quality time together.
