the INTERVIEW

We had the exclusive opportunity to sit down with Ashish Verma at The Chatwal.

What was your design inspiration for The Chatwal?

Timeless elegance with harmony of classic and contemporary.

How do the Frette products add to the design of the hotel?

The legacy and rich history of both brands are complementary. Frette is a guarantee of unsurpassed quality, and it's opulent yet understated class is a natural fit for The Chatwal.

What is unique about your property?

There is no other such complete boutique luxury hotel in Manhattan, which has the most convenient location like The Chatwal, has the landmark legacy and state of the art design and technology, several accommodations with terraces, a celebrity chef restaurant, a famous spa brand with a pool, complimentary Mercedes house car, Butler service for all guests, Toto bidet toilets, Asprey bath amenities, or even bespoke bikes to enjoy our city at leisure. It's a true Jewel of Manhattan.

What was important about having Frette in your property?

Frette is synonymous for the very best and our guests know that there is no better quality of rich comfort to experience. After all, good sleep is essential for any fine hotel. Frette enhances our bespoke Shiffman mattresses at The Chatwal to ensure the best ever sleep and rest for our guests.

What are your three most important elements when designing a bedroom/room?

Light and Colour, Shape and Form, Texture and Quality.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?

Heavenly. Just like in the arms of a lover. Like a cocoon and nest of warm embrace of softness, serenity and sexiness.

If you only have 72 hours in New York City what would you recommend doing or seeing?

Day 1. Wake up in Frette linens and order breakfast on the terrace suite at The Chatwal with the Manhattan skyline in the background, stroll to Rockefeller Plaza for lunch, experience the Christie's museum in the afternoon and after a nap in Frette linens back at the hotel, go to watch a Broadway show and have a night cap at The Chatwal's mezzanine bar.

Day 2. Enjoy breakfast in the hotel's restaurant Lambs Club, then stroll to Bryant Park for the most spectacular city park just steps away, then get a tour of Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Have lunch at your choice of concierge recommended restaurants, visit Museum of Modern Art and then come to The Chatwal's Red Door Spa with a signature massage and relax by the current salt water pool. Enjoy dinner at one our City's many great restaurants as recommended by our Concierge and return for a night cap with live music at the hotel's mezzanine bar.

Day 3. Enjoy breakfast at the terrace of your suite, then go shopping on Fifth avenue or Madison Avenue only steps away from The Chatwal. Saks Fifth Avenue store is only a 7 minutes’ walk from the hotel. After lunch in the meat packing district enjoy the afternoon exploring the Highline nearby and return to refresh and enjoy a pre-theater dinner at the hotel's restaurant Lambs Club and watch another Broadway show 'Paramour' by Cirque du Soleil or watch a movie projected for you at your terrace suite with hotel's al fresco movie screening equipment and order room service before relaxing in Frette's arms.

What is your favorite restaurant in New York City?

Per Se by Thomas Keller. The most artistic and scientific cuisine in town. The very best ingredients are sought here and the service is like a ballet performance, with a view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. Unsurpassable dining adventure. Convenient west side location to be dropped off at in our chauffeur driven house Mercedes.
