the INTERVIEW

We had the exclusive opportunity to sit down with Mr. Governato, the Director of the Four Seasons Hotel Milano and Mr. Angeloni, the President and CEO of Caruso.

What was your design inspiration for the Four Seasons Hotel Milano?

Over the years, the iconic Hotel has been interwoven in the fabric of the city‘s culture and people as an institution of refined elegance and impeccable service. Housed in a former 15th century convent, the Hotel‘s meticulous restoration subtly incorporates historical references into its timeless style. Fragments of frescoes create a meditative backdrop for relaxed elegant interiors with classic architectural flourishes. The Hotel‘s 118 rooms and suites are appointed with distinguished diverse designs including the Caruso Suite with eclectic style in loft apartment. Undergoing a constant design evolution, the Hotel has initiated a soft refurbishment of rooms in collaboration with interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.

What is unique about your property?

Milan breathes fashion on every corner but there is one place where luxury and craftsmanship, especially that designed for men, come together to satisfy even the most demanding. That place is Via Gesù, situated in the heart of the famous Fashion Golden Triangle, and also famously known as “The Man’s Street”. Four Seasons Hotel Milano is strategically located in the center of this emblematic street, allowing guests to enjoy an incredible shopping experience right at their doorsteps.

What was important about having Frette in your property?

Known for their chic, original design and inimitable finish and feel, Frette bed linens can be found in many of the world’s most prestigious Four Seasons Hotels and perhaps has always given a great importance to the bed experience, so Frette is a natural choice in the Caruso Suite; we are thrilled to offer the best location to enjoy all of it.

How do Frette linens add to the design of the Caruso Suite in your hotel?

The space has been fully decorated by Caruso as an homage to Italian Lifestyle. The bed, specially realized for Caruso Suite, is dressed with elegant linen personalized by the exclusive Frette’s Bespoke service; two bathrooms in Italian white marble with towels and robes personalized by the Frette’s Bespoke monogramming service and ample closets in top-quality boiserie featuring Caruso exclusively designed homewear items, complete the interior. It’s a perfect match.

How does Frette contribute to the good "Italian Lifestyle" which characterizes the Caruso Suite?

The Caruso Suite, 100 square meters of pure comfort and elegance at the third floor of the hotel, is a tribute to Italy’s aspirational lifestyle. Steps away from the Caruso flagship store, in Milan’s most coveted fashion district, the ambition of Caruso is to guarantee the best and most authentic experience of Italian Lifestyle for its clients or, better said, for the members of THE GOOD ITALIAN community who visit Milan and are loyal guests at the Four Seasons Hotel. The presence of Frette Bespoke masterpieces dedicated to them is the perfect complement to an ambience of refinement and Italian culture.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?

It makes your morning a delight! Your quality of sleep dramatically improves and makes you better the next day. Frette bedsheets are so smooth that once you have tried them you cannot go back. It is like being cuddled. For these clients who know the real meaning of authenticity and have an educated tactile sense it makes a world of difference to have their skin caressed by a superfine cotton sheet at night, wear a bathrobe in light terry-cloth or rest on a plush golden brocade cushion.

How do you define luxury?

‘A luxury experience' is something that simply makes you feel good. Or Special. When needs and desires are anticipated and fulfilled even before being realized to the extent that they become a requirement. Luxury in a hotel goes beyond the physical presence and amenities and extends to the all important levels of service. Luxury is an experience. It's the total package. Luxury 'it's what everyone deserves'. Real luxury means to be able to disconnect from your hectic agenda and surround yourself with beautifully authentic things in days when people do not have time to relax and think any more and when aggressiveness is the most common behavior.

If you only have 72 hours in Milan what would you recommend doing or seeing?

Thanks to exposure generated by Expo, Milan is now at the top of most tourist’s must-visit lists when they come to Italy. The first recommendation is the Duomo Cathedral; this one is kind of a no-brainer, because the famous Duomo in Milan is the center of tourist activity in the city, but while a visit to the interior is easy and free, not everyone knows that you can take an elevator up and walk around on the cathedral’s roof. Have a relaxed shopping afternoon because Milan is the fashion capital of Italy, so it shouldn’t be surprising that there is some great shopping to be done in this city. This busy business-centric city has a world-class art museum, too. The lovely Pinacoteca di Brera’s, in the picturesque Brera neighborhood, has a truly impressive collection of primarily Italian paintings.
